What You Should Know
Floaty is engineered to give your phone the best possible chance of being retrieved if it enters the water, and we've put serious thought into every component to make that happen. Here's what we want you to understand before you head out.
How Floaty Works
Floaty's Floating Dice is designed to stay visible above the water surface, keeping your phone tethered just below it — so you can always spot and retrieve it quickly. The phone itself sits just under the water's surface, suspended by the tether connected to the Floating Dice above. Anyone nearby can see the Floating Dice and reach down to retrieve the phone.
Check Your Weight Limit First
Both Floaty and Floaty Pro are rated for specific maximum weight capacities. Before using your Floaty, please check the weight rating listed on the product page and compare it to the combined weight of your phone, your case, any tempered glass screen protector, and any other accessories attached to your device.
If the total weight exceeds the rated capacity for your Floaty model, flotation may be reduced or even fail. The exact weight ratings for Floaty and Floaty Pro will be displayed in the product description when pre-sale opens.
The Magnetic Connection
Floaty uses a premium-grade magnet engineered for durability in demanding environments — selected specifically for its strength, long-term reliability, and ability to maintain a secure hold under everyday water activity conditions. Under normal and moderate use, the magnetic connection is designed to hold firmly.
However, if your phone experiences a sudden, forceful impact against a hard object — such as a rock, boat edge, or similar surface — the force of that impact could exceed the holding strength of the magnetic connection and cause detachment.
For this reason, we strongly recommend using the included Mechanical Security Clip in all situations, including both everyday and more demanding water activities. The Mechanical Security Clip is your backup, and it's there for a reason — use it.
Your Phone's Water Resistance Matters
Floaty's design works alongside your phone's built-in water resistance. The vast majority of modern smartphones include a manufacturer water resistance rating, which is what keeps your device functional if it makes contact with water. Floaty's Floating Dice keeps your phone tethered and retrievable — your phone's own engineering handles the water protection.
Please be aware that the following factors may affect how Floaty performs and may increase the risk of your phone sustaining water damage:
- A phone case, tempered glass, or attached accessories that bring the total weight above Floaty's rated capacity
- A phone whose water resistance seal has been compromised due to prior drops, repairs, or wear over time
- Third-party accessories attached to your phone that were not designed for use with Floaty
- Forceful impacts that separate the phone from Floaty before it reaches the water without the Mechanical Security Clip engaged

By using Floaty, you acknowledge that it is a supplementary safety accessory and not a guarantee against water damage or device loss.
